I worked with Matt while I was in high school. At the time, OCD, ADHD, anxiety, depression were poorly treated. He put me on 2-3 SSRIs, and I repeatedly told him they weren't working; his reply was that they were 'helping more than I realized' (since, psychiatrists have said that this is a poor response). At the time, I was also doing drugs. I went to rehab since then, but I'm not a true 'addict;' I was self-medicating because I wasn't being properly treated. If a teen is smoking weed daily (and disclosing it openly), asking for ADHD med refills early, etc., I think a responsible clinician should pick up on those red flags. However, I was a good liar, so I can't fully put the blame on Matt. The issue is that he didn't have the depth of understanding or clinical knowledge needed to properly treat me. If he did, perhaps I wouldn't have felt the need to self-medicate.But I really like Matt, and, now that sobriety is not an issue, I kind of miss him! He is a great guy, very warm.
