My problem revolved around unhealthy expectations, specifically that I expected validation from family members. I am loving an objectively good life and I am worthy of respect. But my expectation that my siblings or parents provide that kind of validation was really holding me back- the longer we were around each other, the more frustrated I would get due to this unmet expectation. And I could not see it.Kurt thoughtfully addressed as I explained the symptoms I was experiencing and helped ask me questions that unearthed this unhealthy expectation. It did not solve my problem, but knowing it is there has helped me find ways to treat my family with more love and less expectation that they be what I want from them.
