In 2009, I had the misfortune of being Dr. Mountcastle's first, possibly second patient to undergo DIEP flap breast reconstruction. I believe he misled me on his level of expertise with the procedure, as his teacher was assisting (guiding?) him throughout the operation. Though I don't hold Dr. Mountcastle responsible for the slow death of my reconstructed breast, I do blame him for the results of the five surgeries needed to remove the dead tissue. Those surgeries spanned two years and completely changed my body shape to the point of being unrecognizable from its original shape. Though I'm certain his skills have improved over the past 15 years, I cannot recommend Dr. Mountcastle for breast reconstruction.
