When I said I wanted the A1C included in my annual blood work (I am 53 and all 3 of my brothers have diabetes), he said No. He thinks it is an unnecessary test. When I said why wouldn't you want the A1C and get a bigger picture of what's going on with a person's blood sugar over 3 mos rather than one day, he told me, Don't you worry about it and leave it to the professionals. He was very condescending. Any Dr who discourages a patient from advocating for themselves is not a DR I care to see again. He also will not let you get blood work orders prior to annual checkups. You have to get them after your checkup, so you can't even discuss the results at your checkup. I feel like it's just another way to make you pay for another appt.
