How likely are you to recommend Dr. Borque?
I’m writing this regarding our experience yesterday with my husband’s surgery. After his original consult with Dr. Borque, he was extremely excited and confident about booking the procedure. However, the day of the procedure was very disappointing. My husband wasn’t told much regarding pre-op instructions. Many things he had to ask himself. One day before his arrival time was changed from 8:30am to 6:00am, so we had to juggle a lot of things with kids in school to get him there on time. When he was about to be wheeled in for surgery, a nurse asked if he brought a brace. He was never educated on this or offered one. So he called me last second and I went and got one before his procedure ended. Then also in pre-op they stripped him down completely - no clothes at all - which was a surprise. In his first procedure (elsewhere, he was allowed to keep on his underwear). Then they uncovered him and he was exposed the whole time until he was sedated - not sure how much he was exposed in the O.R. But he had agreed to let students and others come in - had he been told beforehand that he would be exposed completely, he would not have agreed to things like this. Communication was horrible. He was told that there was a 90% chance that the main issue and reason for the procedure would be because there was a cyclops cyst present. And most of the post-op information given months before the procedure focused on that - a quick recovery with little debilitation. However, it turns out that it wasn’t a Cyclops cyst, rather it was a re-torn ACL. Okay, that’s fine, there was a 10% chance of that. However, no detailed post- op instructions were provided at any point, even the the whole plan and focused had changed. My husband, who is a physician himself, asked when woke up post-op - about the procedure details - when he was told that an ACL repair had been done, he asked if Dr. Borque could come speak to him for a couple of mins about the post-op plan. He was emphatically told ‘No, Dr. Borque is busy. And you are too sedated. To remember anything anyway’ Completely unprofessional. Last time my husband’s procedure was done, the surgeon came and spoke with him post-op and explained everything even though nothing had changed. And yes, my husband remembered everything. Now, this time, with an ACL tear repaired, he needed some clear instructions. Instead, Dr. Borque came and spoke with me, he told me what was done and showed me some pictures of the knee. He also wrote the same information down - but no details were told or given on if he should be on crutches, when he could walk, when he could drive, what’s the game plan for today/tomorrow and the next day! He did say that he can walk now if able. But that left us even more confused, because he’s not supposed to bend his left knee - so that seems a bit aggressive. Last time he had to stay on crutches for 6 - 7 weeks. I left that discussion very confused, but figured he wrote detailed instructions my husband would figure out. Turns out, no details were written down, just essentially what was done during the procedure. On the section regarding weight-bearing measures, he left it blank. With both of his meniscus being repaired as well, this would complicate weight-bearing issues. We were both very disappointed. I know he must be a great physician bc he has great reviews, but I needed to detail my experience honestly.
