I took my 4 yo in for sedation dental treatment, last Monday.We had a treatment plan for a pulpectomy and 2 crowns, and we’re informed Tx may have changed, due to the time between original exam and treatment date. I understood that, as I also work in dentistry.However, I was told I would be informed if things did change.It was not until my husband and I were brought back for discharge, that I was told she ended up with 5 stainless steel crowns. But, I was never informed, nor did I consent to the additional treatment.My baby came out with a mouth full of silver caps, and had I been told, I would’ve likely opted for some of those crowns to be a white, zirconia crown, as she will hold onto the teeth that he treated, until she is 12/13 yo.Like I said, I work in dentistry and I have ALWAYS been told I must get consent before I do any treatment. I can’t do anything for my daughter, now, but I surely wouldn’t want another child or family to have that same experience.
