I came in with two concerns I’ve been dealing with for a long time, including a condition I’ve had multiple surgeries for and was advised by surgeons to keep investigating. When I explained my history and ongoing symptoms, I was told it was “likely a mental health issue” and encouraged to seek help for anxiety. The same response was given regarding my recurring headaches. Although I was prescribed medication for the headaches, she told me she didn’t believe it would help and again blamed everything to anxiety. Three refills later, the medication has absolutely helped, proving it wasn’t just anxiety. I left feeling dismissed and unheard, as though my symptoms weren’t taken seriously and felt like I was being labeled as a crazy person instead of being cared for. Patients deserve to feel listened to, and unfortunately, that wasn’t my experience.
