My appointment was scheduled with Dr. James Gallagher, MD, but I was seen by a fellow instead without any prior notice or consent. I was not informed that the attending I booked would not see me, and the fellow who entered the room did not introduce herself clearly. As a burn patient with a traumatic initial wound care experience, being reassigned without transparency made me feel dismissed and unable to advocate for myself. If the visit is going to be with a fellow rather than the attending I scheduled, this should be clearly communicated upfront so the patient can make an informed decision.
