Dr. Fenfen Wu, MD

Dr. Wu is not a fat friendly doctor. I have hypothyroidism and PCOS (both of which are in my charts) and she kept repeating over and over how many pounds i had gained in one year, two years, and 5 years. She asked me "did you notice you gained 56 lbs in five years?" to which I scoffed and said "well, yeah". Without asking me about my history with diets or my current eating habits, she told me I needed to eat healthy and "find some kind of program" - I assume she meant a weight loss program. She said "you're too young to be this big" which is rather funny because I'm sure there's no age she would find it acceptable to be my size (I am almost 5 ft 7 and weigh 250). As someone who has struggled with eating disorders, abuse related to body weight, binging and purging, and has been working on my health I found this whole encounter deeply harmful and painful. I Felt stigmatized and judged. FYI - My blood pressure and past bloodwork showed no signs of health issues.
