My father needed open heart surgery. Cleveland Clinic and Dr. Miller were part of his care team. The next surgery spot they had open wasn’t for another month and a half, and it was going to be about an hour drive own south. He needed the surgery sooner so we went with JFK hospital Atlantis. Unfortunately, my father had strokes. Devastating. After finally being released from the hospital after rehab and everything over a month later, we went back to his cardiologist, Dr. Miller for a follow up and to see what we had to do next. We called the hospital, signed release papers for his records to be sent and came for the appointment at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Miller was clearly bothered that my father didn’t have the surgery there, with his care team. He was rude, condescending, and dismissive. Said “you didn’t have the surgery here so I don’t know what is going on!!” I said, we sent the records over for you to review. He mentioned not having the surgery there probably another 4 times before I finally said “right, we didn’t have the surgery here because there wasn’t anything available soon enough, let’s move on from that and see what we need to do now.” He really didn’t like that and told me he didn’t feel comfortable working with me. I said, “I don’t care about that, I just need you to take care of my Dad.” He asked who else we’ve seen and I said nobody, we were told to follow up with his cardiologist, you. He kept shuffling papers, saying since he wasn’t in the operating room he doesn’t know anything. I’m sorry but, YOU are the cardiologist, you knew about this surgery, you obviously didn’t do the research and look over the records so you could help and continue with his care. We left extremely upset. Miller wouldn’t give my dad scripts for his bloodwork for taking Warfarin. We had to start all over with another cardiologist, Dr. Borzak, who is WONDERFUL, caring, understanding, and extremely knowledgeable. We will never go back to Cleveland clinic or Dr. Miller ever again. That is not how you take care of patients, especially during such a sensitive, painful time.
