I had GERD my whole life. Last 20 years, it got worse to the point that I was waking up with acid in my mouth. I had a small hiatal hernia and a short esophagus. He worked with Dr. Smith to do a combined laparoscopic stretching of the esophagus and hiatal hernia repair followed by a transesophageal incisionless fundoplication (TIF). He could not have been more kind and caring and competent and helpful. He was also flexible to combine a few telehealth visits because I had to come from a long distance. The challenge was recovery, and advancing from a liquid diet, but they had good advice and strategies and it really wasn’t as bad as I thought. I just had to learn to go slow and eat slow.
