When I met Carin, I was at my absolute rock bottom. I felt hopeless, defeated, and weak. Carin saw that deep pit I was in, the one that I could not even imagine escaping. She didn’t call down to me from the top, rather she climbed down to me and sat next to me. She gently and confidently told me “We’re getting you out of here.” I didn’t believe it, but I could tell she did. She was going to teach me how to climb my way out. I’d fall down sometimes, and she’d be right there by my side, coaching me, reminding me, and comforting me. I’d try to give up, but this was her mission too, and let’s just say, Carin does not give up easily. As I climbed and worked, I was becoming stronger, I was becoming whole for the first time in my life.I didn’t simply get out of that pit. I transformed as I learned how to get out of that pit. I learned foundational skills that will help me for the rest of my life. And now when I see that pit again, I am not scared. Because now I know how to climb.
