I worked with Angela Coady for about 1 year while I was in college. I sought therapy to address childhood trauma and difficult experiences from my past. Unfortunately, this stands out as the worst experience I have had with a therapist. One of the things that stayed with me was discussing my belief that I was experiencing PTSD symptoms and being told 'I wouldn't call it trauma.' I felt like my concerns were minimized rather than explored. I repeatedly expressed that I wanted to focus on my childhood experiences & trauma history, but sessions were frequently redirected toward my romantic relationship despite my requests to focus elsewhere. At the time, I was a young college student struggling with trauma, low self-esteem, and a difficult relationship. When I discussed infidelity, I was asked whether the cheating 'negated all of the nice things' my partner had done. I found that response invalidating and unsupportive. Looking back, I still remember the impact this had on me.
